Executive Director of School Support and Operations

 

 

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the Executive Director of School Support and Operations (EDSSO) manages the team within the office of the Superintendent by providing guidance and leadership to operations and compliance teams to support school staff, students, and families. Provides direct oversight and management of school supports across mentioned above areas throughout the Superintendency.

 

The Executive Director of School Support and Operations will assist the Superintendent in supervising the office’s team, providing cross-functional guidance and leadership in the areas of operations, youth development, safety, compliance, and matters related to school support, students, and families. The EDSSO addresses school escalations and partners with New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) Central Finance and Human Resources teams and other divisional field-based staff to support the implementation of Central initiatives alignment of cross-functional supports to schools across facilities, transportation, food and nutrition, attendance improvement/dropout prevention, safety, crisis management, and others. Performs related work.

 

Reports to: Superintendent

Direct Reports: Staff assigned at the Superintendent’s discretion

Key Relationships: Works collaboratively with NYCPS Central divisional and other field-based leaders to coordinate cross-functional and differentiated instructional, operational, and compliance-related supports to schools and partner with other Superintendent's offices to share operational and compliance support staff working with schools in different Superintendent's caseloads.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Assists the Superintendent in overseeing, guiding, and managing the Superintendent's office team members as they coordinate and support day-to-day and long-range operations, student services, youth development, safety, Special Education, and MLL/ELL compliance support to principals and their teams to ensure increased student achievement.
  • Supports the Superintendent in providing comprehensive oversight and operational support to schools to develop and implement initiatives, including summer school, extended school day, Saturday school, academic holiday programs, and others.
  • Ensures the provision of professional development and technical assistance for school staff on programming/scheduling students based on their educational needs and responding to citations from Academic Policy and financial audit reports.
  • Collaborates with other Superintendent's office team to coordinate differentiated operational and compliance supports to proactively implement Central's policies and initiatives to improve academic outcomes of all students.
  • Assists the Superintendent in supervising Student Services Managers as they provide support to schools in managing the attendance-taking and improvement processes, Guidance Counselors and Social Workers supporting students to develop socio-emotional learning skills, and addressing issues related to school climate, crisis intervention/de-escalation strategies, and health.
  • Assists Superintendent in addressing and resolving community concerns in partnership with parents, elected officials, and labor representatives.
  • Assists Superintendent in providing direct support to parents in accessing information and responding to inquiries relating to their child's education that cannot be resolved at the school level.
  • Works in partnership with OSYD to ensure students in temporary housing are provided all of the provisions of the McKinney-Vento Act.
  • Performs duties as delegated by the Superintendent.

Qualification Requirements:

 

Minimum

 

Must currently possess or will possess by date of hire, New York State certification as a school district administrator (SDA) or school district leader (SDL); or the Administrator Certificate plus Superintendent extension. Please Note: We do not accept internship certificates.

Preferred

  • Successful experience in education administration and policy experience at Central or field office level.
  • Ability as an effective educational leader, with broad experience in the coordination of operational and programmatic resources to support all student populations, including general education, ELL, and special education students.
  • Experience in guiding and supervising other school professionals (school-based, or field-based) to improve achievement.
  • Background in building staff capacity through professional development and by providing ongoing feedback to staff.
  • Creative problem-solver with the ability to perform independent, thoughtful analysis around important educational issues impacting how high-quality services are provided to schools.
  • Deep knowledge of school support and cross-functional partnership across school system offices.
  • Experience working effectively on a collaborative team, with an understanding of cross-functional roles.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication and presentation skills, including public presentations.
  • Ability to manage and lead teams to provide high-quality support to schools and communities in the service of improved student outcomes.
  • Ability to foster a holistic approach to support students and families that elevates socio-emotional learning of students, youth development, and respect for diversity within schools and communities.

 

 

Salary: $194,486
