Director of STEM Experience and Outreach, District 75, LIV-EA63

Position Summary: The Director of STEM Experience and Outreach will lead the strategic vision, implementation and expansion of science and instructional technology for students with disabilities across District 75 (D75). This role focuses on driving pedagogical innovation through assistive technologies and leading district STEM events, expos and student showcases. The Director of STEM Experience and Outreach will collaborate closely with the Director of Mathematics to ensure cohesive, interdisciplinary instruction and equitable access to 21^st century learning. Performs related work.

Reports to: Citywide Liaison for D75

Direct Reports: District Science and Technology Coaches

Key Relationships: The District 75 Director of STEM Experience and Outreach works closely with the D75 leadership team, school administrators and staff and central offices.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Innovation

·         Establishes objectives, sets educational goals, determines priorities and formulates plans for science and technology education for students with disabilities in D75.

Events & Showcases

·         Designs, coordinates, and executes district wide STEM events, science fairs, technology expos and    student competitions to showcase innovation and student achievement in District 75.

Needs Assessment & Liaison

·         Performs needs assessments to determine science and technology areas requiring emphasis for students in both standardized and alternate assessments.

·         Serves as a District Liaison to the Central Division of Instruction and Information Technology (DIIT), vendors and community event partners.

Acquisitions & Approvals

·         Coordinates, supports, recommendations and approves all school based instructional technology acquisitions to ensure standard compliance and equity.

Professional Development & Coaching

·         Designs, implements, and conducts a tiered program of staff development, institutes, conferences and demonstration lessons centered on science, technology and event coordination.

·         Co-supervises and strategically assigns District Coaches to support school based pedagogical and support staff.

Research & Compliance

·         Conducts subject area research and attends professional conferences to remain at the forefront of science, assistive technology, and special education innovations.

·         Ensures all programs comply with mandates established by funding sources and federal legislation.

Curriculum Alignment

·         Oversees the adaptation of District 75 science and technology goals to align with New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) standards, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and New York State Alternate Assessment (NYSAA) frameworks.

On Site Support

·         Conducts classroom visits and on site observations to monitor program implementation, support schools in deploying assistive technologies, and audit event readiness.

Procurement

·         Co-manages budget and purchasing district based science and instructional technology materials, kits, software, and event supplies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

·         Interfaces with District personnel and Borough Field Support Liaisons to ensure coaching resources effectively support schools serving students in alternate and/or standardized assessments.

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum

Applicants must possess a valid New York State certificate in School Administration/Supervision (SAS), School District Administrator (SDA), School Building Leadership (SBL), or the Administrator Certificate. We do not accept internship certificates.

Preferred

·         Deep knowledge of special education instructional practices specific to science and instructional/assistive technology for students participating in standardized and alternate assessments.

·         Deep knowledge of the Danielson Framework for Teaching as it applies to Special Education instructional practices in science and technology. This includes the ability to support teachers in Demonstrating Knowledge of Students and Designing Coherent Instruction by integrating low to high tech assistive technologies, ensuring highly effective outcomes for students with severe disabilities in both standardized and alternate assessments.

·         Proven experience planning, organizing and executing large scale educational events, expos or conferences.

·         Strong understanding of the diverse needs of the District 75 student population relative to science inquiry and tech accessibility.

·         Demonstrated ability to design and deliver high quality professional development to teachers, administrators, and support staff on innovative technology integration.

·         Experience in analyzing data and assessments to adjust curriculum to ensure increased student mastery.

·         Experience providing small and large group training.

·         Experience in using data and research to inform practice around math and science content areas.

·         Excellent interpersonal skills and written communication skills.

Salary: $154,038 - $181,604
